Top MRO Provider AAR Receives FAA Approval for 737NG Life Raft Stowage Compartment
Innovative design helps alleviate overhead bin space challenge for airlines
WOOD DALE, Illinois – AAR (NYSE: AIR) received Federal Aviation Administration Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval to install life raft stowage compartments on Boeing 737NG aircraft, providing passengers with more overhead room for carry-on baggage.
AAR’s innovative design enables life rafts to be stored in the ceiling space above aircraft aisles, as opposed to using valuable overhead bin space. With this enhancement, the 737NG – already among the most efficient, high-tech planes in its class – gains an even stronger competitive advantage.
“We are excited to offer our airline customers a state-of-the-art solution to increase available storage room on the aircraft,” said Ron Eaton, Vice President, AAR Engineering Services. “This is a great retrofit option for airlines looking to provide additional overhead bin space for their passengers.”
The modification was developed by AAR Engineering Services, which also managed the FAA STC approval process. AAR manufactured the life-raft compartments and conducted final assembly at its AAR Aircraft Services — Indianapolis operation.
AAR Engineering Services provides a wide range of high-quality, cost-effective technical services, specializing in interior reconfigurations, structural and systems modifications, and avionics upgrades requiring FAA or other regulatory agency approvals.
AAR was recently voted the Best Airframe MRO Provider — Americas by customers in ATE&M magazine’s 2012 Aircraft Technology Engineering and Maintenance Awards and named Aircraft Parts Supplier of the Year and one of the Top Five MROs in the world in an industry ranking conducted by Airline Economics magazine.
