Wood Dale, Illinois — AAR CORP., a leading provider of aviation services to commercial and government operators, MROs, and OEMs, completed the installation of 7,770 solar panels at its Airframe MRO facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, emphasizing the Company’s commitment to sustainability.
Installed on six buildings, the solar panels are expected to reduce approximately 2,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually and offset 50% of the facility’s energy usage. When the solar panels produce excess energy, the system enables AAR to deliver it back to the grid.
As part of the project, Pisgah Energy, the designer, developer, and installer of the new solar panels, conducted a solar feasibility study and glare hazard analysis in collaboration with the FAA and Piedmont Triad International Airport.
“Installing solar photovoltaic on airport property is challenging in and of itself. The sheer scale of the AAR project is on a different level, demonstrating a strong commitment to reducing CO2e emissions through the generation of on-site renewable energy. In fact, at 4.6MWdc, collectively, these projects represent Guilford County’s largest rooftop solar installation. As a Greensboro native, it’s a real point of pride for my company to have played a part in that achievement,” said Evan Becka, Pisgah Energy’s President and Senior Project Developer.
“As we celebrate Earth Day, we are proud to add solar panels to another facility, further demonstrating our investment in sustainability,” said Jessica Garascia, AAR’s leader of sustainability efforts and its Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Administrative Officer, and Secretary.
