GLOBAL BUSINESS AAR PLEDGES $100,000 AND SUPPORT FROM ITS 1,000 MIAMI EMPLOYEES FOR TUTORING/MENTORING PROGRAM
Global Aviation and Aerospace Leader, AAR CORP., Partners with Miami Public Schools and
City Year Miami to Adopt Miami Central Senior High School.
Miami Beach, FL – (April 13, 2011) – AAR CORP., a leading provider of diverse products and services to the worldwide commercial aviation and government/defense industries will pledge $100,000 in support of Miami public schools through a program with City Year Miami. City year members will serve as tutors, mentors and role models at Miami Central Senior High School. The donation is designed to complement innovative educational reform for at-risk students in the Miami-Dade School system.
AAR maintains a strong presence in the Miami area with industry-leading Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Landing Gear services operations that employ more than 1,200 employees and rank among the premier MRO facilities in North America and the world.
The partnership, which was announced at a ceremony hosted by Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Alberto M. Carvalho, is a testament to the power of public and private education partnerships that provide effective learning foundations and opportunities for at-risk students.

AAR’s financial and human resources will allow City Year Miami to fund 12 corps members, who will provide academic and mentoring support for Miami Central students in English and Mathematics coursework, as well as assist with behavioral modification ensuring student attendance. City Year will use the funds donated by AAR to further its mission of reaching 50% of at-risk students in Miami-Date County.
AAR plans to “adopt” Miami Central Senior High School as a part of Miami Public Schools’ initiative to revitalize underperforming urban Miami high schools. This announcement follows a recent visit by President Barack Obama and former Governor Jeb Bush to Miami Central Senior High School, where they gathered with school officials to promote the need for more innovative mentoring/tutoring programs in the U.S.
