AAR INNOVATES TO ACCELERATE B-717 LANDING GEAR OVERHAUL
WOOD DALE, ILLINOIS, June 19, 2006 - AAR's Landing Gear Services operating unit successfully completed its first overhaul of a B-717 landing gear ship set for Hawaiian Airlines. By combining extensive experience with similar landing gear platforms and its robust internal engineering and manufacturing capability, AAR Landing Gear Services provided Hawaiian Airlines with a timely and cost-effective solution to meet their B-717 landing gear overhaul requirements.
To minimize downtime or disruption to Hawaiian Airlines' demanding flight schedule, AAR developed and expedited the approval of a new authorized overhaul procedure, working directly with the landing gear manufacturer. Special emphasis was placed on identifying landing gear components that could be reused to maximize the carrier's original equipment investment. To further accelerate the overhaul process, AAR Landing Gear Services obtained the necessary authorization to manufacture axle sleeves, which were not immediately available through the OEM.
"Our engineering expertise and experience with MD-80 and MD-90 programs were key in resolving some of the issues we encountered during this first B-717 overhaul," Said Pastor Lopez, General Manager, AAR Landing Gear Services. "We leveraged our in-house manufacturing capability and responded with a prompt, innovative and competitive service offering while ensuring the highest levels of quality and airworthiness for our customer."
The landing gear overhaul was completed in a timely manner to meet Hawaiian Airlines' tight operations schedule. The carrier was satisfied with the quality of the work performed, as well as the configuration level of the equipment, which contributed to an efficient installation.
Hawaiian Airlines offers nonstop service to Hawaii, as well as service to Australia, American Samoa and Tahiti. Hawaiian also provides approximately 100 daily jet flights among the Hawaiian Islands.
